About
Welcome to Pelvic Health PT by Dr. Cortney
My name is Cortney and I am the creator of this health and lifestyle blog. Welcome!
By trade I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy. During my ten plus years as a PT, I began to move away from traditional orthopedic physical therapy and started navigating into the waters of Pelvic Floor physical therapy.
It didn’t take long to realize that there is a huge gap in healthcare when it comes to treating people with pelvic floor issues.
You may be thinking that pelvic floor issues are simply urinary leakage or things of that nature. The pelvic floor serves many functions. The issues related to pelvic floor problems may include urinary incontinence, bowel incontinence, pelvic pain, erectile dysfunc- tion, postpartum issues, coccydynia (or tailbone pain), constipation, and many many more.
It’s pretty likely that you or someone you know is dealing with a pelvic floor problem. But the issue is that so many professionals don’t know how to talk about it or more importantly, how to treat it. Unfortunately, there is also so much misinformation online about the pelvic floor and the surrounding joints and systems.
My goal is to provide factual information and practical advice in a fun and helpful way. Who knows, maybe this could help you or you could pass it on to help someone else.
Best wishes,
Dr. Cortney Mayberry
What to expect from your first appointment
1
Your Initial Assesment
The first visit is where we chat about why you’re seeking treatment. We ask a bunch of follow-up questions and take some easy measurements. We do all of this over the computer or phone, so no need to leave the comfort of your home. Once we have all of the information, together we decide what we think is going on and what we can do about it.
2
Personalized Plan
Next, we come up with a treatment plan that is tailored to you. The visits after the initial assessment is where the magic happens. We start working towards healing, improvement, return to function, or whatever your goal is. We will also provide an easy homework plan that will support everything we’re doing together. Again, these sessions are held over the phone or computer so no need to significantly reorganize your life to make the appointment.
3
Continued Support
As you start to improve, we slow down visits and focus more on the home program. The goal is to provide our clients with the foundation they need to continue to improve. But questions or concerns are just a few clicks away. We want you to feel completely comfortable before all is done.
Frequently Asked
Questions

Pelvic floor physical therapy is for women and men dealing with pelvic pain, urinary or bowel dysfunctions, pregnancy or postpartum issues, and after surgeries such as prostate surgery. We do this all from the comfort of your phone or computer which makes life a little easier.

The exam consists of us chatting about why you’re seeking treatment. We also do some easy tests and measurements. The goal of the exam is to figure out what’s going on, what you want out of therapy, and to set up an initial plan for treatment.
Each treatment session is tailored to you. We will go over previ- ously given exercises and possibly add more. Education is a top priority in pelvic health PT so we will spend a lot of time discussing those specifics. Since the session is held over the phone or computer, there will be some exercises we try together and others that we will ask you to do on your own.
I wrote a nice blog on the entire exam process. Feel free to check it out!

Unfortunately, not at this time. We charge a fee upfront. All of those details are given once you set up an appointment.

Currently, we accept patients from Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. These states have all passed legislation allowing Physical Therapists to have “direct access” to patients - meaning we don’t need a script. But if you have one we can definitely add that to your chart!
