What is Pelvic Floor Therapy?

Pelvic floor therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy that focuses on the muscles, ligaments, and tissues that support the pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus or prostate, and rectum. These muscles play a crucial role in controlling bowel and bladder function, sexual activity, and supporting the core stability of the body. Pelvic floor therapy can address a variety of conditions and issues, such as:

  1. Pregnancy Care

  2. Urinary incontinence

  3. Fecal incontinence

  4. Pelvic organ prolapse

  5. Chronic pelvic pain

  6. Painful intercourse

  7. Postpartum recovery

  8. Constipation

  9. Overactive bladder

Treatment typically involves exercises to strengthen or relax the pelvic floor muscles, manual therapy techniques, education on lifestyle and behavioral modifications, and sometimes biofeedback or electrical stimulation.
